Thomas Tuchel reveals plans for England captaincy
Thomas Tuchel reveals plans for England captaincy. Incoming England head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Harry Kane will remain the team’s captain.
Kane was named captain for the England National Team by former boss Gareth Southgate heading into the 2018 World Cup and has played a crucial role in the Three Lions’ recent re-emergence as a genuine powerhouse of international football.
As he prepares to take charge of the team in 2025, Tuchel confirmed he has no plans to strip Kane of his armband.
Speaking to Sky Sports News after the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw, Tuchel said:
“There’s no need at the moment to look at other options.
“It’s like for Harry for everyone else as well, we totally… I admire him, for his quality, for his leadership, for his character.
“I’m happy to have this group of players, including Harry, big personalities and quality. The job now is to find and build the best group that people are excited to watch us, that they feel inspired watching this team.”
Tuchel went on to reveal that he has not yet spoken to Southgate about the role but hopes to meet with his predecessor soon.
“Not yet. But still that is to come,” he said.
“He’s a gentleman and we met before when I was at Chelsea. It was a pleasure to talk to him. Why shouldn’t I?”
