Ruben Amorim on decision to join Man Utd
Ruben Amorim on decision to join Man Utd. Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has admitted a desire to leave his comfort zone was behind his decision to swap the Portuguese club for Manchester United.
The Portuguese tactician has agreed to take over the reins at Old Trafford, replacing Erik ten Hag, although his move is yet to be formally announced, with Amorim instead keen to keep his focus on Sporting’s upcoming meeting with Estrela on Friday.
While he stopped short of confirming his departure or his move to United, Amorim confessed he is ready to test himself at a higher level in different and unfamiliar surroundings.
“I think all coaches need that,” he explained.
“I think that in everyone’s life, and in yours [journalists] too, there are times when we are doing very well in life but we are missing something or we want something or to prove something.
“And we have to take a step forward in things that destabilise us, that we don’t know if it will work or not, if we are or are not ruining what is good about us, but I think everyone feels that.
“You and coaches go through the same thing in your life.”
As part of United’s agreement with Sporting, Amorim will remain with the Portuguese side until the November international break, which will allow him to take charge of a fascinating Champions League clash with Manchester City.
