Pep Guardiola on Savinho’s most pleasing attitude
Pep Guardiola on Savinho’s most pleasing attitude. Pep Guardiola has heaped praises on 20-year-old winger Savinho, over how quickly he has impressed at Manchester City since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium during the summer.
The Brazilian signed for the Premier League giants in July from Ligue 2 side Troyes, one of City’s partner clubs in the City Football Group, after an impressive loan spell at La Liga with Girona, netting 11 goals in 41 appearances for the Catalans during the 2023/24 campaign.
So far, he’s featured in 11 of City games, supplying four assists but yet to register a goal of his own for the Cityzens.
Despite having considerable room to grow, Guardiola has extremely high hopes for the youngster and believes he wants to become one of the best at the club.
“What I like is I have the feeling he wants to be the best,” the boss told reporters.
“The best on the pitch, to try things and participate in everything, to have the ball and try again.
“He’s not scoring goals but he will take the ball and shoot. We had a free-kick against Wolves and he wanted to take it. He’s a young guy and I have the feeling that he’s here to become a good player. That defines the really good players. With courage and consistency with his ambition he will get there.”
City currently sit just 1 point behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League standings and are set to host newly-promoted Southampton on Saturday. The Saints are still in search for their first win of the campaign and will look to impress when they face Guardiola’s side.
Meanwhile, Savinho will be hoping to open his own account when City welcome Russell Martin’s side.
