Pep Guardiola bemoans over growing injury list
Pep Guardiola bemoans over growing injury list. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has bemoaned the growing injury list in his team after Manuel Akanji and Savinho joined the growing list.
The duo picked up separate injuries in the Cityzens 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur during their Carabao Cup Round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
Akanji did not feature in the game as he had a muscular issue during the warm-up, while Savinho was stretched off in the second half after spraining his ankle.
During a post-match conference, Guardiola said he’s now left with just 13 available players ahead of this weekend’s Premier League tie against Bournemouth.
The Premier League champions are already without influential midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri, while Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, Oscar Bobb, and Jeremy Doku have also missed recent matches due to injury.
“We have 13 players [available], so we are in real difficulty. The guys that play, they finish most of them with problems, and we’ll see how they recover,” Guardiola explained.
“I think we are in trouble because, in nine years, we’ve never been in a situation with so many injuries.
“Hopefully he [Savinho] is not in danger but we will see… Akanji yesterday, I didn’t know it, in the last action felt something in the muscular part of his body and today in the warm-up he didn’t feel good.”
Despite the notable absentees, City tops the Premier League table with 23 points, one point clear of second-placed Liverpool.
