Newcastle’s Eddie Howe denies contact with FA
Newcastle’s Eddie Howe denies contact with FA. Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has revealed he never negotiated with the Football Association over the England managerial position.
The FA on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel as the new head coach of the Three Lions, following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
Meanwhile, the FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham, highlighted that the association had previously interviewed approximately 10 people for the job, which includes some English candidates.
However, Howe denied being approached or interviewed for the England job, and when asked on Friday to confirm whether the reports were true, he said:
“No, I wasn’t. There was no contact from the FA”.
Furthermore, Howe also confirmed that he is not interested in a move as he is “100% focused” on the Newcastle job.
“Absolutely not. England have to do what is right for them,” the Magpies heas coach stated.
“Only they will know the processes they’ve gone through and the decisions that they’ve made, and I’m certainly not the type of person that’s going to analyse that.
“For me, it’s about Newcastle, it’s about trying to win games and it’s hard enough to do that if you’re 100 per cent focused, and I have always remained that way to my work.”
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle side, who currently sit seventh in the Premier League standings with 12 points from seven outings thus far, will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the St. James Park in a teatime fixture on Saturday, as club footballs return after the October international break.
