Newcastle 1-1 Man City: Frustrated Cityzens settle for second consecutive draw. For the second game week in a row, current title holders Manchester City has been forced to drop points from a winning position, this time, settling for another draw with Newcastle United after Anthony Gordon’s equalizer from the penalty spot in the second half.
Much has been made and said of the absence of City’s key midfielder Rodri, who will miss the reminder of the season with an ACL injury suffered in the draw against Arsenal last weekend, and City were way off their best without him here.
How the game unfolded;
City did go ahead and take the lead through Josko Gvardiol after some neat work down the left from Jack Grealish, but never truly threatened to add to their lead after that.
They were made to pay just before the hour mark, when Gordon converted a penalty having been brought down in the box by Ederson. It was the seventh penalty Gordon had won since the start of last season in Premier League games, at least four more than any other player.
Newcastle ended the game the stronger, and may have felt like this was a missed opportunity, to get the better of the reigning champions.
