Mohamed Salah reveals his favourite Liverpool teammate. Mohamed Salah has revealed Darwin Nunez to be his favourite Liverpool teammate to play alongside.
Nunez has netted 36 times in 114 appearances for the Reds since joining from Benfica in 2022 and his spell at Anfield so far has been characterised by his erratic and forceful presence in attack, and quite unbelievable misses in front of goal.
The Uruguay international is yet to truly find his strong footing on Merseyside following the move for initial £64m transfer fee, potentially rising to £86m, but has been defended by teammate and club legend Salah, who also named a former Reds star among his favourite colleagues.
He told a fan Q&A:
“Who do I most like to play with? It was [Roberto] Firmino. Now I feel like I generally like playing with Nunez.
“A lot of people don’t like him but I like playing with him. I see Bahaa (the man who asked the question) keeps shaking his head not liking [Nunez].
“Nah, I like playing with him in general. [Nunez is] a player with different skills. Not a lot of people understand his ball.”
Nunez has faced competition for a regular role under Arne Slot so far this season, starting only nine games across the Premier League and Champions League. He’s managed just three goals and two assists in all competitions thus far, a fair distance behind the numbers Salah has been putting up in 2024/25.
The Egyptian leads the Premier League for most goal contributions with 21, four clear of second-place Cole Palmer and has been pivotal presence with Liverpool leading both tables in England and Europe.
His contract situation remains up in the air but an opening offer is said to have been put to Salah, who is keen to extend his time at Anfield with his deal due to expire in the summer.
