Man Utd open to triggering Gyökeres release clause
Man Utd open to triggering Gyökeres release clause. According to latest report, Manchester United are said to be open to triggering the release clause of Sporting CP red-hot from striker, Viktor Gyokeres inorder to reunite him with new head, coach Ruben Amorim.
Gyokeres has unarguably enjoyed his best footballing career so far under Amorim at Sporting, racking up a total of 66 goals and 19 assists in just 68 games under the boss, before his departure to United during the November international break.
Unsurprisingly, Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to a United side who struggled to turn chances into goals under former manager Erik ten Hag and, and according to AS, the Red Devils are ready to trigger Gyokeres’ release clause of €100m (£83.6m) to get a deal done.
Having seen such a fee price him out of a move last summer, reports have suggested Gyokeres could be available for cheaper in 2025. Indeed, The Times did state the 26-year-old has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sporting, which will see his price tag lowered to £63m next year.
United are likely to wait until the summer transfer window before pursuing any Sporting players after Amorim publicly confirmed he will not raid his former employers in January. However, Gyokeres, who has recently refused to close the door to a move to United, has stressed his desire to see out the season with the Portuguese side.
Any move could hinge on the future of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has failed to impress since his switch from Bologna during the summer. Reports state the £36.5m signing could be offered an escape route back to Serie A.
