Giorgi Mamardashvili sends warning to Alisson
Giorgi Mamardashvili sends warning to Alisson. Georgia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili has sent warnings to Alisson, citing he is prepared to fight for minutes at Liverpool next season once the summer signing makes the switch to Anfield in the summer.
Liverpool made the surprising decision to sign Mamardashvili during the summer in a £25m worth deal which saw the 24-year-old return to Valencia for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Mamardashvili is due to join up with Liverpool next summer, although his chances of playing regularly currently seem slim, as he will be behind Alisson in the pecking order.
Nevertheless, Mamardashvili has rejected suggestions he could head out on loan again if Alisson remains at Anfield.
“I was attracted by the Liverpool project when the club’s representatives met with me to sign me,” he told First Channel in Georgia.
“I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team.”
Liverpool’s current deputy, Caoimhin Kelleher, has openly admitted his desire to leave the club after growing tired of being stuck behind Alisson, with Mamardashvili’s imminent arrival likely to facilitate an exit for the disgruntled Republic of Ireland international next summer.
Alisson has been heavily linked with an exit from Liverpool, with clubs from Saudi Arabia known to be chasing his signature, although there have yet to be any concrete suggestions that the 32-year-old could move on.
