Bernardo Silva fires a brutal ‘trophy’ dig at Arsenal amid Liverpool rivalry comparison. Manchester City‘s Bernardo Silva aimed a brutal shot at Arsenal’s lack of recent silverware success, as he insisted the Gunners “did not come to play football” in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at the Etihad.
John Stones’ 98th-minute equaliser saw City rescue a point in a game, which was largely a one-sided affair after Arsenal went down to ten men late in the first half. City ended the game with 77% possession and 33 shots on goal, compared to just five from Arsenal.
After the game, Silva lashed out at Arsenal’s approach to proceedings, as he insisted City’s rivalry with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was far more entertaining.
“The difference [between the rivalries]? I don’t know. Maybe that Liverpool have already won a Premier League, Arsenal haven’t,” Silva told TNT Sports.
“That Liverpool have won a Champions League, Arsenal haven’t.
“Liverpool always faced us face to face to try to win the games, so by this perspective the games against Arsenal haven’t been like the ones we had and have against Liverpool. So yes, maybe a different rivalry.”
Continuing his criticism of Arsenal, Silva added:
“There was only one team that came to play football.
“The other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee, unfortunately.
“We’re not happy as we wanted the three points, but personally I’m happy with the way we came to play and faced the game. I’m glad we always enter the pitch to try to win every match.”
