Arsenal, Chelsea lead in clubs with most bookings received
As the Premier League season progresses, Arsenal find themselves topping an unfortunate leaderboard – the club with the most red cards issued. Two red cards, one to Declan Rice against Brighton & Hove Albion and another to Leandro Trossard against Manchester City, have painted the Gunners’ early season campaign in a somewhat unfavourable light.
While their disciplinary struggles in the first half of the season have drawn attention, Arsenal are not alone in their struggles with red cards. Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton have each been issued one red card, mirroring Arsenal’s tally in this unfortunate metric.
However, it’s the yellow card tally where the Gunners start to shine (though in a perhaps undesirable way), ranking in the top five for most cautions received. They’ve been issued 15 yellow cards, trailing Chelsea who currently top the league for most cautions with a staggering number of 18 yellow cards received. Following close behind Chelsea are Wolverhampton Wanderers with 17, Bournemouth and Fulham both tied with 16, with Ipswich and Nottingham Forest tied for a respectable fifth place with 15 yellow cards each. see full list
While red card issues continue to be a concern, Arsenal’s efforts to control their emotions on the field will undoubtedly be a priority going forward. They will aim to avoid further red cards and maintain their current place in the table as they progress through the season. The Premier League, notorious for its intensity, will undoubtedly test the discipline of every team.
